Artist Profile ~ Kimry Jelen

Kimry Jelen

Kimry Jelen awakens us to the mystery and beauty of nature. Each of her paintings is born from its own intimate inspiration: an animal’s unique presence or a message she feels the animal wants to share. Working in layers, Kimry allows the painting to flow freely from abstract to representational, taking shape on its own with paint, charcoal, palette knife and brush. When you consider Kimry’s favorite artists: Marc Franz, Antoni Gaudi, Maynard Dixon, Edouard Vuillard, Georgia O’Keeffe and Henri Matisse, you begin to understand her aesthetic choices. Kimry’s paintings invite us to see animals as beings. She brings souls to life and helps us relate to them. In this way she reveals to us that which we may not otherwise see. Whether of an aspen grove, the power of the horse, or an animal’s sense of humor, each of her creations is a celebration of life.

A native Oregonian, Kimry makes her home among the horses, mountains, and Ponderosa pines of Sisters, Oregon. She’s worked on ranches in the Rockies of Montana and New Mexico, ridden in the classical arenas of Portugal and Spain, spent time in Asia and shown her work at the World Equestrian Games in France. The life and energy of places she has visited are seen in her use of space, texture and unexpected color combinations.

Kimry’s work has been used in several promotional posters for horse shows and events. Here are a few.
