Cooper Equestrian ~ Erika Cooper

Erika Cooper is the resident Hunter/Jumper trainer at Templeton Farms Equestrian located in Templeton California. Erika grew up in the beautiful horse country of Hunterdon County, NJ. At the age of eight she discovered the bond shared between horse and rider which has developed into a lifelong passion. After some years of taking lessons and lots of stall cleaning she finally saved enough money to fulfill her girlhood dream of owning her very own horse. Auslander, was an off the track Thoroughbred with whom she would begin the journey of riding and training horses. Together the pair would compete throughout the East Coast winning local and national titles in the Hunter and Equitation rings. Erika continued to advance with guidance by trainer, Jack Benson of Briarwood Farms. Knowing the importance of an education, Erika balanced her riding career with school and graduated with a degree in Business Management. Once that was accomplished she turned her focus completely toward her riding career.

Erika’s Grand Prix jumper, Nelson T was acquired as a four year old shortly after her relocation to the West Coast. They have successfully moved up through the levels together and at the age of ten Nelson was introduced to Grand Prix on the national show circuit. Erika knew that Nelson was of Grand Prix caliber and methodically trained him through the years with this goal in mind. Most recently Erika and Nelson placed 9th in the $25k Wine Country Grand Prix at the Paso Robles Horse Park on October 31st. Click the video box below to watch her performance.

Erika has had the opportunities to train with many of the top names in the sport. Susie Hutchison, Jen Hannink, Colin McIntosh, Mariano Alario, Donna Cheek, Helen McNaught, Anne Kursinski, Ronnie Freeman & Denny Ashe, who have all been influential in Erika’s development as a Grand Prix rider, dedicated equestrian & focused athlete.

Erika’s personal teaching style incorporates pieces of all those that influenced her, plus the many hours she has spent teaching and coaching. Erika’s students move quickly up the ranks and are winning championships in their respective divisions. The most recent achievement was Tayler Sulse and “Penny Lane” winning Champion in the Low Jumpers and winning the Low Children’s Jumper Classic at the Central California Fall Classic held 10/28 through 10/31 at the Paso Robles Horse Park.
